Bun Mee
Owner Denise Tran wanted to create a “bustling urban Asian diner and sandwich shop” to serve her modern reinterpretation of Vietnamese street food, the Bahn Mi sandwich. Renamed Bun Mee, this Pacific Heights restaurant was formerly a tiny gelateria. We turned a red and gold, classically column-clad scoop shop into a vibrant, modern, and warm restaurant with a touch of urban street stall grit. Extra long pendant light cords echo the exposed feel of Asian night markets. Simple flea market stools are reminiscent of casual sidewalk seating at outdoor food stands. Vintage rusted tin corrugated metal panels recall market stalls balanced by softly aging zinc countertops.
